Place and Time

At first U signs made me angry. To proclaim a building unsafe with a proverbial scarlet letter essentially put it in the cross hairs for demolition. As time went by though I was drawn to them as a urban code in landscape, that revealed hidden commonalities and brought attention to the rough grained textures in an increasingly smoothed over city. They also point out where there needs to be focus for renovation and re-use- Use it or lose it so to speak. For the past year I have been photographing the U buildings. Today I set up an gallery site on tumblr highlighting them, which I will update as I photograph more of them.
